Hello, everyone. It's been WAY, WAY too long since I've posted. My apologies for that! A huge amount has happened in my life since I was last active here. To cover all of the details would be too much of a chore right now. At the moment, I'm recovering from a case of the flu, and simply haven't the energy to do so. But, the personal highlights since I last posted:

1) Moved from the Tampa Bay area of Florida to northern California
2) Married the woman of my dreams
3) We have a 6-month-old daughter

Like myself, my wife is a critically-acclaimed, bestselling author. We have multiple solo projects going on. We're also co-authoring three book projects. We have turned a TV series concept that I had been trying to sell into a hit webcomic. Its title is "MoonWraith" - www.MoonWraith.com - and a new page posts each Monday. In the less than 70 weeks that "MoonWraith" has been running, we have had nearly 40,000 hits on it. And, "MoonWraith" was optioned as a movie this past summer. We are also preparing to launch an on-going comic book series called "Confluence", as well as seeking an artist/art team for a different comic book project. A little over a year ago, we launched our own small press publishing house. It's called Umbral Press - www.umbralpress.com.

,To make life even better, my wife shares my interest in nudism. She's open to the idea of living somewhere which would allow us to enjoy a clothing optional, or fully nudist lifestyle - and raise our daughter in such a joyous environment, too. When will that happen? At this point, I've no idea. Hopefully it can and will, though!

Please check out my website. It's changed since I last posted here. Please use it to keep in touch with me. Hopefully, I'll find the time to partake in this group more often than I have been for so long now. If not, anyone can easily reach me via the contact area of my website.

I tend to do the same - website and social networking. I usually do 1-2 signings per year, too. I expect to be doing more of those in the fairly near future.

Most paid advertising that I've explored has fallen far short of the promises made.

Hello, thank you for joining and welcome to the group!

You just brought up one of the major blocks most writers run into. To write, you need to be able to plant yourself and do the work. I hear a lot of people tell me that they “want to be” a writer, yet they can’t make themselves sit still long enough to actually do anything. So they never actually get anything written.

I’m usually here at my desk seven days a week, for roughly six hours a day. Sundays during football season is the real exception – I tend to put in really short days then. I’m always juggling several projects at once. If I’m not at my desk during the time I normally am, I feel guilty about letting work slide. And regardless of what I’m doing when not at my desk, I’m always thinking about the projects I’m working on and looking for ideas for new projects. It’s amazing how often several different ideas will come together and work well, when they didn’t work alone.

Anyway, again, the ability to make yourself sit down and write is something that, it seems, a lot of people who want to write are lacking in. I’m glad you’re able to sit still long enough to do that.

Since I started this group, I’ve been the one doing most of the talking. This group has become more a place for me to talk about my own work than anything else. I’d like to change that; that isn’t why I set this group up. Toward that end, this posting.

This is a group for writers. What’s the best piece of advice you can give to other writers?

I get asked that question a lot. My usual answer? Never give up. Keep writing, keep submitting work. Sooner or later, something will happen.

What about the rest of you? What’s your best piece of advice for other writers?

Again, I’m looking for a new agent. The last one I posted about here turned out to be bad. She simply sat on the work and did nothing with it. I found another agent. He looked to be moving things along with “MoonWraith” – the TV pilot – quickly. But then… He e-mailed saying that “MoonWraith” was simply “too big” for him to handle and he was dropping me due to that and lack of time on his part.

So, I’m looking for another agent. I’ve been sending snail-mail letters out to L.A. – based agents, as “MoonWraith” is my primary concern right now, being the biggest of the projects I’m juggling.

Any agents here on Nudist Clubhouse? Ideally, I need to find someone willing to work on TV/film, novels and comic books. But, even if someone would be willing to represent only one aspect of that, it would be a great help and an opportunity for us both to bring in some money.

I’m back to playing “Batman: Arkham Asylum”. I beat the story line some time back, but hadn’t found all of the Riddler trophies or solved all the riddles and am now going back to grab what I missed while zipping through the story.

I’m in the transfer area. Aaron Cash’s office is showing on the map as having the answer to a riddle in it. The riddle for the area is something like “Hook up with the relatives before you’re transferred out.” In Aaron Cash’s office, on his desk, there’s a photo of Aaron and his family. Whenever I try to use Detective Mode to scan the photo I receive a message stating, “Sample too small”. The photo has to be the answer to the riddle. But why am I unable to scan it? I’ve tried standing all over the place, even getting on top of the desk and crouching down over the photo. Every time I get the same response. What’s the trick to scanning the photo?

When I’m writing fantasy I try to keep things are grounded in reality as possible. Which means that the magick use I write is either very close to how magick really works, or is at least bound by the laws of physics as we know them. Though I’m pushing that a great deal in something new I’m working on. I’ve had a lot of comments about that from my first novel, “Winter’s Rite”. There’s a scene near the end where the villain sends a freezing spell at the hero and heroine. The spell doesn’t manifest itself as a beam or energy or anything like that. Since it’s a freezing spell, its path through the air is marked by frost that forms and falls apart in its wake. It seems that a large number of readers really liked that.

You’re right; inspiration can come from anywhere. I get asked that question a lot – where do you get your ideas? There’s no one source. Anything can spark an idea, as you said.

Hi all,

One of the projects I’m currently involved with is on-going fantasy comic book series. It’s very difficult to get a comic book publisher to take a look at a new project without artwork. Or, at the very least, an artist attached to the project.

Sadly, I’m not in a position to pay out-of-pocket for an artist. So, I need to find a good fantasy artist who is willing to take this on as a spec project – work upfront now, in exchange for a percentage of the sales once the book is picked up. Also, as the main character is a girl in her late teens (19-years-old at the start of the series) anyone interested in drawing for this project must be able to draw females consistently and well. I wanted to point that out because it’s been a problem for every artist who has expressed interest in working on this project to date.

I have two comic book publishers who are interested in the project, but things are stalled for lack of an artist. If anyone is interested, please let me know. You can reach me through my website - http://www.wix.com/scott_harper/scott-harper - anytime.

Liam,

Sorry to have been gone for so long. I’ve been REALLY busy. There’s a new post in my “Nudist Writers” group briefly covering everything I’ve been juggling if you’re interested.

To answer your questions:

It’s hard to say how long I’ve been Wiccan. I was raised in Christian churches but they never agreed with me…or me with them, depending on how you want to look at it. Anyway, I figured out a long time ago that such a religion wasn’t right for me. Yet I didn’t know what was. As you know, I’m a writer (novelist, screenwriter and, more recently, comic book scribe) and a lot, most, really, of my earlier works were fantasy. Doing research into magick and folklore for those projects is what first led to my discovery of Wicca. Imagine my surprise when I found that there was a religion out there that practiced the same beliefs I held! I’ve been referring to myself as Wiccan for years (although I’m still in the proverbial broom closest where my family is concerned so as not to start a religion war or other falling out with them) but I’m not sure if it’s apt to say that I’ve been Wiccan for longer that that, even, or not. Upon learning of Wicca, I just kept thinking, over and over, “Yep, that’s me!”.

As to your question about which came first for me, Wicca or Naturism, Wicca did. I prefer practicing skyclad. Also sleeping nude was something I’d done for quite some time, I never thought I’d spend ALL the time I could nude. That just kind of snuck up on me, little by little.

They only publish a paperback of a project if sales of the e-book warrant it. Recently, they, too, have begun Kindle formats of books. “Gauntlet” is the first project of mine to be on the Kindle.

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve been here. I’ve been very, very, VERY busy lately. Here’s a quick rundown of everything I’ve been juggling:

- My agent is still looking for a Buyer for the TV series, “MoonWraith”. We’re starting up a more aggressive marketing campaign for that in the hopes of finding an interested producer very soon.

- My publisher, Dark Castle Lords Publications, has released the third (and to date final) book that I self-published. That book’s title is “Gauntlet”. Only days after “Gauntlet’s” release as a DCL project, it was also released for Amazon.com’s Kindle book reader.

- The third book in my Wendy Markland series, “Vindicated”, has been edited and the cover art for the project is done. It can already be seen on my website.

- My co-producer and I are STILL looking for funding for the film project “Most Likely To”.

- He and I are also starting up a business to do film work for other people. Our main focus, at least to begin with, will be video book trailers. The site we have set up for that is http://www.wix.com/author_promotions/author_promotions_npr if anyone wants more information.

- He and I are also putting together a web series. That project will be titled “Hallelujah! I’m A Bum” and will focus on a small group of homeless people living on the street.

- I’ve been invited to do a book signing and I’m gearing up for that. That signing will the annual Free Comic Book Day event. I’ll be at Yancy Street Comics (9409 U.S. Highway 19, Port Richey, FL 34668) in Gulf View Square Mall. The event starts at 10 AM. For those not familiar with FCBD, it’s a HUGE event in the comic industry. Being invited to this is a major honor.

- Recently, I was also hired to write a 3-issue comic book mini-series called “Ultimate Boy”.Issue #1 has been written, accepted and paid for. Issue #2 has been written and submitted – I’m currently waiting to hear if there are any rewrites needed to it before beginning work on Issue #3. I have already seen a rough draft of page one of the first issue – it looks incredible!

- Throughout all of this, I’m also working on a new novel – the longest thing I’ve ever written.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to answer this; I’ve been swamped.

When I used Lulu they only charge was if you bought an ISBN for your book or ordered copies of the book to sell yourself. Without an ISBN, though, no bookstore can order your book. That could hurt your sales. I say “could” rather than “would” because of something I ran into over and over – a lot of people simply don’t want to buy a book that has been self-published. Even though self-publishing is growing, there’s still that stigma that if a book was self-published, then that means it wasn’t good enough for a “real” publisher to pick up and, therefore, not worth the money/read. But, if you were to use Lulu, unless they’ve changed things (which is possible, as I’ve not used them for a few years now) there isn’t a cost to actually publish a book with them.

Another quick update on this project. My agent has a couple of good leads that she’s following up on. Meanwhile, I’ve managed to interest, to date, 15 people – potential cast and crew – in this project so that my agent has that list to add weight to her efforts in gaining the interest of a Buyer. With luck, this project will sell in the very near future.

Hi all,

Quick update on the project the agent is representing. The agent has the current draft of the pilot script and series bible. She?s sent me a ?hot sheet? form to fill out to help her pitch the project to prospective producers. I?ve filled that out and gotten it back to you. I?ve also, with the agent?s blessing, contacted a director and actor I?ve known for some time. I?ve worked with the director before on other, as yet unfilmed, projects. My hope was to get both of them interested in ?MoonWraith? in the hopes of having both an actor and director already attached to the project would make it easier for the agent to sell it. While I?m still waiting to hear from the actor, the director has gotten back to me and is interested in the project.

They?re starting off with a TV series concept I?ve created. It?s a character-driven horror/action series called ?MoonWraith?. Long story short, the agent wanted the pilot script for ?MoonWraith? to go through a professional critique and editing process before shopping it around to producers. We?re through that. At this point, I?m simply waiting for the agent to contact me, requesting the most up-to-date draft of the pilot script. This being the holiday season, it may be after the first of the year before that happens. Regardless, things are moving on this front.

A new promotion tool for authors has recently been brought to my attention by my publisher, Dark Castle Lords Publications - DCL for short. Very recently, they released a print edition of ?Predators or Prey??, which had previously been released in e-book format. It was recommended that I have a video book trailer made to promote it. I paid someone else, a professional company called Circle of Seven Productions, to do the one for ?Predators or Prey??. That book trailer will be released very soon.

While waiting on COS to put together the ?Predators or Prey?? trailer, I used a website for such things to put together my own book trailer for ?Winter?s Rite?. ?Winter?s Rite? was my first novel. I self-published it several years ago in paperback format. More recently, DCL picked it, and my other two self-published novels, up and released ?Winter?s Rite? as an e-book. Wayne,

Best of luck with them. The quote you mentioned reminds me of something that Dean Koontz said once in a TV interview, Something like, ?As an author, I?m a professional liar. I tell people stories. The better I lie, the more books I sell?.

Again, best of luck with your work!

I still have my NES, but it?s in a box and hasn?t left those cardboard confines for years. I have an X-Box ( bought because of the ?Buffy the Vapire Slayer? games ) but recently upgraded to an X-Box 360. I wanted it because of ?Ghostbusters: The Video Game? - which I?ve already beat. I?ve been playing ?Fable II? for weeks now.

Hi all,

What do you think about the below story? Is it worth devoting the time to? I?m thinking this may be the opening of a full-length novel, but want to know what my fans think of it and how you all respond. And please keep in mind, I just wrote this in one pass; it?s unedited.

***

?Do we always have to come to places like this after it?s gotten dark?? Crimson asked me.

Crimson is my assistant. Her full legal name? Crimson Briar Jinx. No, I?m not joking. She had it legally changed before I met her. She?s never told me what her given name, the name she was born to, the name her parents blessed, or, according to her, cursed, her with actually was. I could find out, but out of respect to her as both a person and an employee? Alright, tell the truth and shame a mythological demon, or maybe a thought-form entity, I?ve never been able to determine which. Anyway, to be honest, Crimson is more of a partner than an employee.

As for myself, since I?m the one telling this tale, you?re probably wondering about me, too. My name, my full given name bestowed upon me upon my creation, and yes, you read that right, I said ?creation? not ?birth?, is Zephyr. That?s it. Just Zephyr. But my origins are another story for another time. For now, just suffice to say that, unlike my employee/partner, I?m not human. I pretend to be. I strive to be. I want to be. But I?m not.

I peered through the thickening fog, undisturbed by the chill that caused Crimson to shiver now and then, seeing the fuzzy shapes of the wooden hull and tall mast of the old pirate ship. Or maybe I ought to say ?Ye olde pirate ship??

?Come on,? I asked in counter to her own question, ?where?s your sense of adventure??

?Home,? she muttered through chattering teeth. ?My sense of adventure is home in bed, warm and snug under a pile of thick blankets and making fun of me for letting you drag me out here tonight.?

I glanced over at the outfit that my young, reluctant companion was sort of, kind of, almost wearing. Her upper body was covered, just enough to keep her from being arrested, by something that I can only describe as being a Gothic bikini top bodice. It was cut to mimic the wings of a bat, but stylized to be reminiscent of flame. The material was black, trimmed in a dark blood red. The lower half of her outfit, some might say costume, was a matching miniskirt of black and red. Her legs were covered in see through stockings designed to make it look as if her perfectly proportioned legs were swathed in black spider webs. Her shoes were black leather platforms with rows of silver spikes arranged around the back of the thick heels and toes. And, yes, those spikes were real, genuine silver - a precaution in our line of work. A fashion statement and lethal weapon in one go. That?s my Crimson. Several men who?d passed by us had given Crimson long, appraising looks. Until they saw those shoes. The sight of those shoes alone had intimidated every man into looking somewhere else as he hurried away. Her only concession to the cold weather was the thick cloak she wore. The material, black with a satiny red lining, fluttered in the breeze. She wouldn?t wrap it around herself for fear of looking as if she couldn?t tolerate the cold. She couldn?t, but that didn?t stop her from pretending that she could.

Crimson is unrepentantly Goth, in case you hadn?t already guessed. Luckily, she didn?t go in for the whole facial and body piercing garbage that?s so common in the Goth community. Like me, Crimson found that to be vile and disgusting enough to churn her stomach and make her want to part ways with her last meal.

While I?m on the topic of descriptions, in case you?re wondering about me, I?m six-foot-four-inches-tall, not too lean, not too bulked up with muscle either, though. My hair is long and black as can be, yet fine and soft. I keep it pulled back in a ponytail more often than not. I have solid, rugged features that most woman, most human women, anyway, seem to find attractive. My creators envisioned me with a day or so of stubble. I seem to be stuck with it. I can shave it off, but it?s back within an hour or so. Yet, since that?s the way I was created, it doesn?t matter how long I go without shaving; the stubble never grows out beyond that rough shadow I was given. I was wearing my usual type of outfit - black T-shirt, black jean, black sneakers and a black denim overcoat. No, I?m not Goth. I just like wearing black. Black doesn?t show dirt easily and it makes for good camouflage at night, which seems to be the time I normally get called to work. Besides, black is slimming.

In reply to Crimson?s comment I only grinned and pulled her cloak around her. She slapped my hands away and glared up at me. I shrugged and led the way deeper into the fog, closer to the ancient ship that awaited us.

A dark shape materialized in the swirling mists ahead of us before I even heard the rapid footsteps. At my side, Crimson went still. I knew without looking that her hand was already touching the handle of a dagger she kept with her at all times. I hadn?t bothered to ask where she?d stashed in it the skimpy outfit she had worn out tonight. Some things are better not know to the minds of men. Or beings who want to be a human male.

I slowly held out a hand to forestall trouble. It wouldn?t have been the first time Crimson had acted rashly and started the very trouble she had wanted to avoid. I didn?t bother to reach for a weapon, though I was armed. I rarely need to bother drawing a weapon.

?Mr. Zephyr?? a voice called out, echoing eerily in the fog as the dark shape moved closer.

?Yes,? I said, ?But just call me Zephyr, please.?

A man stepped out of the fog before us. He looked to be a bit past middle-age and was on the heavyset side with receding hair. It was hard to tell his hair color in the poor lighting, but I?d judge it to have been dark brown. His eyes were wide, almost wild.

?Thank you for getting here so quickly,? he said, offering his hand.

I shook the pudgy hand he held out, noting how clammy it was. The man?s pulse beat rapidly and hard enough to be felt even through the casual handshake. Something had done a good job of freaking him out. He held the same hand out to Crimson as I introduced her. The man hesitated upon seeing her glossy black nail polish and the grinning skull ring with the heliotrope eyes she wore on her middle finger, but shook her hand without comment. To his credit, his gaze didn?t roam up and down her exposed twenty-one-year-old flesh. Most people couldn?t seem to help themselves when it came to that. Some did it appreciatively. Others did it accusingly. But nearly everyone took time to scan whatever Crimson happened to be wearing, her elaborate make-up and whatever skin, usually large amounts, happened to be on display.

?A friend gave me one of your business cards,? the man said, turning back to me. ?He said he found it lying on a shelf in the paranormal research section of a bookstore.?

Sounded reasonable; I made it a point to leave a card or two in such places every time I was bookstores. Sometimes it pans out and snagged me a job. More often than not, it gets a phone call from someone who wants to know if the cold spot in their house is really Grandma Millicent come back for a visit. That?s not our line of work. There are plenty of organizations and groups to handle things like that nowadays. Crimson and I, we only take on cases that are more?unique, shall we say? Still, sometimes the old business-card-on-the-bookstore-shelf trick pays off.

Apparently in an attempt to prove his claim, the man held out a slightly dog-eared copy of one of my cards. In featured no image, only simple, you guessed it, black text on a white background. The card read:

Zephyr Paranormal Investigations
For serious supernatural disturbances, call Zephyr. We?ll run to you like the wind!

Below that was a telephone number, e-mail address and the URL for the website that was built and maintained by Crimson.

Yeah, I know, the cards we use are corny. But they result in a lot of hits on the site. The site is where the information is. Crimson does an outstanding job keeping it up to date and listing what information we can legally give about cases we?ve worked. The site convinces all but the most hardened skeptics that we?re legit.

I nodded at the card, making no move to take it from him. After a few moments, the man stuffed the card back in his pocket and motioned for us to follow him. He led the way toward the antique pirate ship that still wasn?t much more than an indistinct shape in the heavy fog. I noticed that the man was walking toward the ship a whole lot more slowly than he?d walked away from it.

?My name,? he said, ?is Benjamin Fairbanks. I work here at the docks as an administrator for a cargo company. That thing-? He pointed at the pirate vessel. ?-is also my responsibility. The company I work for bought it a few months ago, hoping to use it as a kind of gimmick to help boost business. But?? He trailed off, shaking his head in dismay.

Crimson pointed up at the shadowy form of the pirate ship as it slowly took shape in the fog. ?That?s The Night Terror.? It wasn?t a question and her voice had taken on the odd monotone quality I?d learned to recognize as trouble. ?Captain Tobias Vane?s ship.?

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks said, his voice quavering a bit as he turned to her. ?You know the stories??

Crimson stared at the ship before us as she said, ?Enough to know I don?t want to be here.?

I glanced back and forth between Crimson, Mr. Fairbanks and the ship. They knew something I didn?t. Not surprising, really, if you understand the working relationship Crimson and I share. She?s fascinated by all things paranormal and pretty much devotes her life to the study of all things supernatural. Me, I?m in this because it?s what I was created to do; it?s who and what I am. But I?m, due to the way I was made, more the rush-in-with-magick-blazing-and-chase-off-or-destroy-the-enemy type. Crimson spends hours and hours and hours each week reading about and studying the supernatural. This wasn?t the first time we?d walked into something she knew about while I was in the metaphorical dark.

?Enlighten me,? I told them as I watched Crimson continue to stare up at the old vessel.

Mr. Fairbanks cleared his throat and asked, ?You know nothing about Captain Tobias Vane or his ship??

?No,? I admitted.

Crimson made a scoffing noise that was her way of telling me I really should devote more of my time to reading and study. Yet her frightened gaze never wavered from the rickety wooden hull that now loomed over us.

I looked up, seeing the badly weathered planks that made up the hull, the masts, furled sails and, by far the most disturbing, the ship?s figurehead. The Night Terror had an elaborately-carved figurehead that made it worth of its name. It was in the shape of a full-figure, nude feminine demon. Her cloven feet were together below legs that looked reptilian, with backward-bending knees. The carving was so well done that individual scales stood out, even in the fog and poor illumination. The demoness? arms were angled backward, as if to embrace the ship?s hull. The figure?s elongated head was tipped back, mouth open, as if snarling vulgarities at the sky. Intricately curled horns wound at the sides of her head, joining her skull to the ship. Sharp teeth, fangs and a forked serpent tongue could all be seen in the open mouth. The nude demoness had been carved to be anatomically correct, the supple, lithe, titillating body on such display invoked feelings that warred with the sight of the inhumanness of the figure as a whole.

Just as I was able to look away I glimpsed the faintest shine of dark red in the eyes of the figurehead. Despite my resolve, a chill wormed through me.

?What?s up with the eyes?? I asked.

?Captain Tobias Vane had the eyes made of red glass,? Mr. Fairbanks said. ?The inside of the carving?s head is hollow. When The Night Terror was running down another ship, oil lanterns would be placed inside that hollow cavity so that the red glass eyes would glow. They always went after their victims at night and Captain Vane used the demon figurehead with her glowing red eyes to great effect.?

Shivering at the mental image of the pirate ship sliding out of the dark night, the demonic figurehead looming larger and larger, with those evil red eyes, I finally pulled my attention away from the rickety vessel. I asked Mr. Fairbanks why he?s called us.

The man made an effort to shift his focus away from the ship, but evidently couldn?t bring himself to turn his back on it completely. He stood half-facing The Night Terror as he spoke.

?My company wants to make use of the ship, as I said. They want to use it as a kind of gimmick to help boost sales. But the history of the ship and it?s?problems, let?s say, are making that difficult. Let?s jump back in time and start from there, shall we??

Crimson and I both nodded. Crimson, like Mr. Fairbanks, stood half-facing the ship and kept glancing up at it, as if expecting it to attack at any second.

?Well,? Mr. Fairbanks said, keeping his voice low, ?Captain Tobias Vane was also known as the Masked Pirate. No one ever saw his face. To this day, no one knows what he really looked like. It?s in doubt that the man?s real name was even Tobias Vane. Everyone who ever saw Captain Vane only saw him while he was wearing a cloth mask. The mask was said to be black, with a white skull stitched into the front of it.?

I frowned, saying, ?Even on deck, in the middle of the day, in the blistering sun, he wore it??

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks said. ?He was never seen without the mask.?

?Eew,? I said. ?Imagine how much he must have sweat wearing that thing. The smell alone would??

I trailed off, noticing the looks from both Mr. Fairbanks and Crimson. I motioned for the story to continue.

Mr. Fairbanks went on, saying, ?It was a full mask, covering his entire head and face. He always took his meals alone in his cabin, presumably so he could remove the mask and eat without anyone seeing his face.?

?When he died,? I asked, ?why didn?t anyone remove the mask??

?They couldn?t,? Crimson told me.

Nodding agreement, Mr. Fairbanks said, ?On the last raid Captain Vane conducted, someone on the vessel that was being boarded threw a dagger. The weapon struck Captain Vane blade-first in the left cheek. The blade of the dagger punched through the mask, Captain Vane?s cheek and quite probably injured his tongue and the roof of his mouth, too. It also probably broke some of his teeth, but that?s not known for sure. Anyway, the wound was ghastly. Still, Captain Vane refused to remove his mask for treatment. After the raid, during which he saw to it that every single person aboard the other ship was put to death as punishment for his injury, Captain Vane retreated to his quarters.?

?He never came out alive,? I guessed.

Crimson glanced back up at the hull of the ship that loomed over us. ?Right.?

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks said, lowering his voice even more. ?Days went by. Several of the crew, including the first mate, William O?Malley, tried to get in. But Captain Vane had barred the door to his quarters just as he did every time he went in here to remove his mask. Then the crew smelled smoke. They quickly realized it was coming from Captain Vane?s quarters and used a barrel of rum as a battering ram to smash their way.?

Crimson made a noise that made me think she was about to say good-bye to her supper. A quick look at her face, which was even more pale than usual, told me that she knew this part of the story all too well.

?What they found,? Mr. Fairbanks continued, ?was what was left of Captain Vane. The captain had evidently not been able to properly treat the dagger wound in his face. It?s thought that it had grown infected and that the infection was killing him and he knew it. So, rather than simply die and allow someone to see the face of his corpse, Captain Vane had pulled his damaged mask back on, someone that must have been indescribably agonizing for him, then soaked his head in oil from a lamp and set it on fire.?

I blinked as Crimson retched beside me, barely able to keep herself from throwing up.

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks said. ?When first mate William O?Malley and several of the crew got in, Captain Vane was dead, his face and head burned to a blackened cinder. But Captain Vane apparently hadn?t wanted to set fire to his beloved ship. As he died, he dunked his head in an open water barrel, putting out the fire that he used to take his life and hide the face of the corpse he was leaving behind.?

?So that was the end of the rein of terror inspired by this ship?? I guessed.

?No, sir,? Mr. Fairbanks said, joining Crimson in another quick glance up at the pirate ship. ?That was only the beginning of the real terror.?

?Tell me,? I said, still trying to figure out why we?d been called out in the middle of the night for a history lesson.

?First mate William O?Malley took command of the ship after Captain Vane?s death,? Mr. Fairbanks told us. I saw Crimson nod her agreement at my side. ?But not long after,? Mr. Fairbanks said, ?O?Malley began to report to the crew that he was seeing the ghost of Captain Vane in the captain?s quarters. O?Malley had, of course, moved into those very quarters upon declaring himself captain of the ship.?

?Of course,? I said.

?From the records we have,? Mr. Fairbanks said, ?it doesn?t look as if any of the other crew had began seeing Captain Vane?s ghost yet.?

I made mental note of the use of the word ?yet? and motioned for the story to continue.

?O?Malley,? Mr. Fairbanks said, ?led the crew on several successful raids, following in the footsteps and traditions of Captain Tobias Vane. But all the while he grew more and more frightened. He continued to report seeing the ghost of the ship?s previous captain.?

Crimson cut in, saying, ?O?Malley was eventually swept overboard by a broken piece of rigging. There wasn?t a storm, but the crew simply chalked it up to a fluke of nature, some odd strong breeze causing the accident.?

?Right,? Mr. Fairbanks said. ?They fought amongst themselves until a new captain emerged to take command. We don?t even know what his name was. He was found dead in the captain?s quarters the morning following his declaration of captaincy. According to the records, he had been in good health the night before. When he was found, there wasn?t a mark on him.?

?That?s when what was left of the crew started to realize something was wrong,? Crimson told me.

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks agreed. ?Now no one wanted to be captain. But someone had to. A man named Nathaniel Greaves finally agreed to take command. No one argued. Greaves moved into the captains quarters. In the middle of his first night as captain he ran up on deck screaming about the ghost of Captain Vane. The following day, Greaves ordered the doors of the captain?s quarters sealed. He kept the title of captain, but refused to go near the captain?s quarters.?

?Yeah,? Crimson said softly. ?Greaves kept the title of captain for all of?a week, wasn?t it??

Mr. Fairbanks nodded, saying, ?One week to the day after declaring himself captain of The Night Terror, Nathaniel Greaves was found dead, hanging from a noose that was tied to the ship?s figurehead. It was broad daylight. There was no way that the man could have climbed out there and hung himself without someone seeing him.?

?That was all she wrote for the piracy career of The Night Terror,? Crimson said. ?The remainder of the crew decided that the ghost of Captain Tobias Vane wasn?t going to let anyone else captain his ship. Without anyone else stepping into the role of captain, they sailed to the nearest port, unloaded the ship and left her there to rot. They made sure to spread the story to anyone who would listen, warning people to stay away from The Night Terror.?

?The ship was picked up by a salvage company later,? Mr. Fairbanks explained. ?They quickly sold it. It changed hands over and over, no one keeping the ship for long.?

?Then it ended up here,? I said.

?Yes,? Mr. Fairbanks agreed. ?My company owns it now, as I?ve said. The previous owners kept it in this same berth, but conducted tours through it. They used it as a sort of haunted pirate museum. That ended after several people took things from the ship to keep as souvenirs. Each of those people turned up dead soon after. Each thing that was taken was found back in place on the ship. Even a long, wide splinter of wood that one man gouged out of a plank was found back in place after the man himself was found dead for no apparent cause. If you look, you can see the cracks along the edges, where the man gouged out the wood. But that sliver has somehow been reattached at the narrow edges, like a wound healing.?

Losing patience with the long tale and spooky story, I asked, ?So why call us out here in the middle of the night? If you?re looking for someone to perform an exorcism on the ship to get rid of a ghost, I?m afraid you?ve called the wrong people. We only handle cases in which someone is in danger. From what you?re telling me, as long as people respect the ship and not try to take it from him, Captain Vane?s ghost leaves them alone.?

?It?s gotten worse,? Mr. Fairbanks whispered, again glancing up at the ship and the demonic figurehead. ?People are starting to report seeing Captain Vane?s ghost on deck from time to time. There have even been a couple of occasions where he?s been seen walking the boardwalks here around The Night Terror?s berth.?

?But why call us out here tonight?? I pressed.

The man swallowed, glancing again at the ancient pirate ship. ?My friend gave me your card weeks ago. I?ve been debating on whether or not to call you. Then, tonight, only moments before I called, I??

?You what?? Crimson asked.

?I saw the ghost of Captain Vane myself. He was in my office. I was working late. I turned around and?there he was, just standing by the door. He looked just like the reports say he does. He isn?t wearing his mask and he doesn?t have a face. His entire head is nothing but a charred mess. He doesn?t even have eyes; they were burned out of his skull by the fire when he committed suicide.?

Mr. Fairbanks stepped further from the pirate ship and looked back and forth from myself and Crimson several times.

?Please,? he said, desperation evident in his expression, body language and tone. ?Every time someone has tried to take The Night Terror away from Captain Vane they?ve died! My company wants to make use of the ship and have tasked me with finding a way to do that. I?m afraid Captain Vane sees me as trying to take his beloved ship from him. Please, you have to help me! If I don?t do what the company wants they?ll fire me. I?ll lose my job and someone else will step in and take over. Then Captain Vane will go after them. If I do what I need to in order to keep my job, Captain Vane will kill me. I?m sure of that. Please, you have to do something!?

I held up a hand to forestall Mr. Fairbanks and keep him from heading further into hysteria. Turning, I looked to Crimson.

?Well?? I asked her. ?You knew more about this particular case than I did coming into it. What do you think??

She looked back up at The Night Terror and shivered. I doubt it had anything at all to do with the cold fog hanging in the air or her skimpy excuse for clothing. ?We?re here,? she said reluctantly after a few moments. ?We?d may as well go on board and take a look around.?

Hi all,

As you all know by now, I?m sure, I tend to juggle several projects at one time. And new ideas are always forming in my mind to haunt me until I do something with them. In an effort to balance things and lessen the haunting by new ideas that demand something be done with them, I want to try something new. This will also give you, my fans, some say so in projects I work on. Which, hopefully, will make all of you happy, too. I want to start sharing the seed or first bit of something in my blogs and see what kind of response I get to it, to try and judge if any given potential project will be liked and well-received by you, my readers. If it?s not, it?s not a project I?ll probably devote much, if any, time to. At least not right away. If it?s something that gets a good response, then I?ll know it?s something I need to work into my writing schedule and develop as time permits. It?ll also serve to give readers some free samplings of my work. Sound good?

The first such example should be posted later today.

I?d also like to find a good publicist. Anyone here willing and able to do either, or know someone who is?

3) Location scouting has begun.

4) Filming looks to be on track for happening in Phoenix, Arizona.

Things here are getting off to a good start here as far as my writing career is concerned. A couple of years ago, my fourth novel was picked up by Dark Castle Lords Publications and published as an e-book. DCL has plans to release a print run of the book- ?Predators or Prey?? - in a few months? time. There?s also a producer who is trying to get that same book made into a film. I actually just replied to an e-mail from her a few minutes ago. She?d written with a bit of good ( potentially great ) news. I have other things career-wise going on, too, that I can?t talk about yet due to a nondisclosure agreement.

I hope your job continues to hold in there. I know the feeling. While still waiting for the needed break with my writing, I?m working a part-time job on the side. It feels as if it?s reaching the same point you talked about with your job. Every week I get through and still have that part-time job seems like a victory. Again, I hope yours continues to keep going.

If it were to happen here in New Port Richey I?d be there if my schedule would allow for it. Between my schedule and my strong dislike of driving, I serious doubt I?d make it to a shoot anywhere else. But, again, I?d be willing to be behind and in front of a camera for such a shoot.

Hello,

I joined this group just to be able to comment on this thread. I?m in New Port Richey, Florida. Honestly, I don?t have a lot of experience with a camera, but I can use one. I?d be interested in maybe meeting up with someone local for shoots, for both behind and in front of the camera as needed.

Hi all,

A lot of nudists would like to be able to spend their work time nude, too. I?m among that number. That?s the good thing about being an author. I work in a home office and can be naked while I work.

I created this group so that other nudist writers can meet, share opinions, ideas, tips and whatever else. In short, I wanted a place where nudist writers can talk to other nudist writers and, if we?re lucky, be able to help each other in some way.

That said, enjoy!

Hi all,

My name is Scott Harper. I?m 34-years-old and have been writing for most of my life. When I graduated high school in 1993 I got serious about turning my writing into a career. Seeing as how writing is pretty much the only thing I?ve ever wanted to do, trying to make a living off it seemed only natural. So, after graduation, I began submitting work to publishers.

Fast forward to 2002 and I got my first short story published. Finally, after over 200 rejection letters. Now, by 2010, I have 20 short stories and five novels published. I self-published my first three novels. My fourth novel, ?Predators or Prey??, was picked up by Dark Castle Lords Publications as Book 1 of a series. It?s also in the process of becoming a movie by actress/producer/model Karita Fleming, based on a script I wrote. I?m currently working on the 3rd novel in that series. DCL has also picked up the three novels I?d originally self-published.

I got into screenwriting about three years ago when a California-based independent director/producer found one of my short stories on-line. He liked it well enough that based on it and a 3-page-long short film script I?d written, he hired me to write two direct-to-DVD films for his company. Neither has yet been filmed due to lack of funding. I?m also working with a different producer on what we hope ( fingers crossed, please! ) will be a SyFy Channel original film. I?m working with still another producer on what will be a TV series. Due to a nondisclosure agreement, I can?t talk about that project at this time, though.

I?d still very much like to find a clothing optional part-time side job. Does anyone have any such openings in or very neat New Port Richey, FL?

I?m an author/screenwriter with 20 short stories and five novels to my name. I?ve also been hired over the past couple of years to write three low-budget films for independent companies. Sadly, none of the films I?ve written have been produced yet due to lack of funding. I?m also a very amateur graphic artist.

The sad fact is that most authors aren?t able to make a living solely from our writing. Which means the need for a part-time job on the side. If anyone has an opening - or knows of someone who has an opening - that I?d be qualified for, please let me know. Being able to work nude is great! I?m unable to do so at my current part-time job ( which is a job I hate with an unbridled passion and am desperate to leave far, far behind ).

Hello,

I?m new here. I just joined the site as a whole a few days ago and this group today. My name is Scott Harper. I?m an author/screenwriter and a home nudist who?s looking forward to partaking in social nudity for the first time. I live in New Port Richey, Florida, so I?m smack in the middle of the nudist capital of the world. I?ve lived here for just over 11 years, but, for various reasons, have never been to a nude beach or resort yet.

I?m hoping to get to know some other local nudists here.
