|Nudists lobby Capitol Hill|
Add another interest group lobbying Capitol Hill this week: nudists.
About a dozen members of the Florida-based American Association for Nude Recreation descended on Washington today for a three-day lobbying blitz. Erich Schuttauf, the group's executive director, told On Politics that everyone in his delegation is "appropriately attired" for their meetings with lawmakers and aides.
"We want their first meeting with a nudist to be with someone in a suit or tie or a blouse and skirt," he said. "We don't want to offend anyone. We are in our birthday suits in our recreation time."
Among the association's concerns: a pending bill that aims to restrict minors' exposure to online pornography by regulating Internet transactions. Schuttauf said the legislation could limit the ability of nudist clubs to collect membership fees online.
The nudists also plan to meet with executive branch officials to discuss ways to "enhance opportunities for nude recreation" on federal land, he said.
