How Open Are You About Being an Absolute Naturist?
SunBunny Posted: Feb 3, 2010 |
Do your family and friends know about your desire to live nude? Amazingly, I have found that a number of nudists/naturists, even many of those living in nudist resorts and parks, are not willing to share that information with family and friends. It always leads me to wonder why. Let's talk. |
SunBunny Posted: Feb 3, 2010 |
Yes my family and friends know that I am a nudist and that I live the nudist lifestyle all the time. I guess I set a benchmark for them to come to a positive understanding of nudist living and I am a source or reference for discussion for information, perceptions and misunderstanding on nudist living. It is a good thing. |

Our grown children also know that we are nudists. Their spouses and all our grandchildren know as well. In fact, they accompanied us on our annual trip to Club Orient last June and want to return with us again. Though they do not live a nudist lifestyle themselves, they are very respectful and supportive of ours and have been positive advocates for the lifestyle when asked about it by their friends. Funny thing...all their friends know and are very respectful and supportive. Most of them are into skinny dipping but won't go all the way and adopt the lifestyle completely. Some of our friends and family know. We were outed at a party last year in front of about 150 family members and friends. Our grown children circled the room asking what some of those family and friends thought. The responses were mostly positive and the others were neutral. Strangely...no negative comments....even from my dad or my mother in law! Our neighbors know because they have seen us both as well as some of our nudists friends out in our backyard. They don't seem to be bothered by it and have actually seen me full frontal and just waved and said "hi!" We've had dinner with them a couple of times but the subject hasn't come up. We are open to discussion and won't lie to anyone if they ask but we don't just start a conversation with..."oh..by the way...we're nudists." |

I am nude about 80% of the time since I work at home. My neighbors don't mind if I am on my deck or pool area naked so that's a plus. I live on a golf course and the golfers haven't complained either. I've been here 8 years. My license plate is NOODIST so I think most people know. |
jaybird Posted: Feb 5, 2010 |
My family knows and most of my friends know. Some friends have joined me at the beach and participated and some have joined me but chose to remain clothed. My neighbors have "caught me" a few times in my backyard when they looked over the fence. And I had caught one former neighbor in their backyard. You just never know who might be a nudist (I even saw one of my managers at a resort once.) |

My family knows Im a nudist but it helps since my parents are nudists to.My close friends and dates know to. |

26 years in Corporate Management and now a school teacher. I feel like a closet nudist most of the time. My wife, family, closest friends all know. If my wifes parents found out they would pray for me daily. Wish things could be a lot different. We live in a free country but we don't have the freedom to be ourselves, even though it doesn't hurt anyone else. |

I am nude the whole time that I am at home, 365 days a year. I come home and the rule of my house is take off your clothes at the door. My friends to the same when they come over. My grown son knows that I am a nudist but my parents are on a don't ask, don't tell kind of thing because of religion. |
Bryan_and_Jen Posted: Feb 8, 2010 |
I am at the point where I don't really care who knows that I am a nudist. I am proud of the nudist lifestyle. I do not discuss it at work as I am the type that does not discuss my personal life on the job. Away from the work place is different. Right now I am not as open due to the fact I am looking for a new job since I was recently laid off. One day we would like to live full time in a nudist resort community. For now, we live nude at home full time and have a private backyard for nudism. |
Jennifer Posted: Feb 8, 2010 |
I'm totally open about it. My mom is my only immediate family, and she's always been cool with it. All my friends know too, and are fine with me staying naked when they come over. Most don't join in, but I'm fine with that. I love nudism for my own reasons, and don't feel there's any need to pressure anyone else into trying it. |

My wife and I were discussing the idea of living in a resort. One of the larger ones that would allow us to jog and exercise in the nude outdoors. The interesting thing that came up is not all our children are comfortable with the resort enviroment. They have a hard time just hearing about our life as nudist period. Half of our kids could care less but the others with grandchildren would not come see us or allow their kids to come see us if we live in a resort. Now there are no secrets here they all have known for a very long time the lifestyle we live and yet their are some who still just think we are crazy or more to the point would like to get naked just not with their parents or grandparents. So our compromise is to live on enough land to allow for outside exersice and live close to a resort for the social part of the being a nudist. It is still not a perfect world Yet but we are working towards that goal! |
FireProf Posted: Feb 9, 2010 |
That is precisely why we don't live in a nudist community. Our kids wouldn't have visited or our kid in laws would not have allowed our grandchildren to visit us if we did. I think that changed since the nudist trip they all took with us to Club Orient in June. But with this economy..we'd never get out from under this house and we'd have to scale way back on sq footage. Haven't seen a home this large at any of the clubs or resorts and my wife loves her house now! Oh well! LOL |

My brothers and sisters who have not had direct contact with me are not not aware of of my choice of lifestyle. They live 300 miles north of me. My Sister 'n' Law via my late wife does know and has said "You go boy"!. Her son my nephew knows too and He has been to nudist beaches around the world.I have been trying to make it known on facebood that I am trying to get at posted on Facebook so my so my brothers and sisters will get the message. Came close to teloling 1 of my brothers when he was talking about coming across a c/o beach as he said Being retired I am not worried about what others think. What I would like to find is a resort that would accepting me moving there and spreading payments over the year being on a fixed income. Have any ideas |

Wayne, save your money for a year then move to the resort of your choice. |

March 4 a non nudist friend of mine had posted on his facebook page about a family in NJ forced to cover up a snow woman. see this this link http://estergoldberg.typepad.com/views_from_a_broad/2010/03/new-jersey-family-asked-to-cover-up-nude-snow-woman-another-sign-of-religious-nutjobs-and-their-stup.html He had made a comment about the complaint was a conservative attitude. I responded it was more of a general American attitude. I also pointed out that I am a nudist and used a quote from Pope John Paul II. He responded by saying that he agreed with me |

My wife died recently (November) and friends often ask what I plan to do in the coming summer. I am 72 years old, retired so can't lose my job or benefits therefore I simply tell them that I plan to spend the summer months or as much as I can at the nudist camp north of my home city. I don't offer this information in a casual conversation but it is a very common question and I simply answer it truthfully. So far reactions have been mixed. |

If anyone who knowes me and checks my profile on facebook they will discover that I am a nudist. I just not going to hide the fact |
Sarasota_Retire Posted: Mar 29, 2010 |
Majority of family and friends are aware that wife and I are nudist, but -- I have often wondered why we do not have a public day (week, or month) of Nude lifestyle recognition. Aren't we all aware that there are presently Gay Pride celebrations, Black History Month celebrations, Scottish Games and Festivals, etc. The World Naked Bike Ride is a beginning but it's basic cause is geared more to ecology rather than nudism. Will we nudist be the last group to 'come out of the closet'? |
paladin Posted: Mar 30, 2010 |
I am particular about who I talk to about nudism, simply because a couple months ago I made the mistake of talking to some friends at church and it blew up in my face and we ended up leaving the church. My mom and close friends know, and a couple of them may end up taking the plunge eventually. Instead of coming out and saying I am a naturist, when the opportunity comes in conversation I simply share the naturist philosophy on nudity and such. I get a lot more people agreeing with me, cause a lot of thinking people agree with the tenets of our philosophy but are simply too timid to just come out and do it. If someone flat out asks me, I am not going to lie about it. |

I would absolutely LOVE to live the rest of my life naked. I'm naked as I sit here at the computer. I have always HATED clothing and would be naked anytime I thought I could get away with it. As a teenager, my best friend and I even went fishing on the Brazos River in Texas naked. When I MUST put on clothes, I put on the minimum I can get away with. As you can tell from my other post, our family, indeed, knows about our penchant for nudity. We have just moved into a Senior-citizen, low-income apartment complex in Taft, California that even has a swimming pool. Of the 60 apartments and 61 residents here, there are only 8 men. At the first activities meeting, my wife suggested a skinny-dipping party and was actually very well received. One of our neighbors had the habit of just knocking on the door and walking in. When told that I am a nudist, she just looked at me and smiled. So, yeah, our friends, family, and MOST of our neighbors know we are nudists. John |

Short answer is "much more open all the time". I feel it is important that all of us be open about being nudists to the degree we are comfortable and to "push the envelope" at least a little in terms of who we tell about it. Instead of keeping it secret shared with only a few (as my wife and I had for several years and I had for many more) We started sharing info/strories on our nude vacation experiences with a number of people, much as we would any other vacation trip. I've also talked about it w/ our adult children and their spouses, with our siblings and their spouses and their adult children. I've also told several friends and people I work with. The interesting thing to me is that no one has had a really negative response. Many express surprise and add they "could never do that", but others have said they'd like to try it themselves, some adding "if only I was brave enough". By being open about it we spread the truth, which is that yes, nudists exist, in numbers, and yes we are "normal" nice people, people in your family, workplace and your circle of friends. I also find it liberating to be open about an important part of myself. |

A few months ago, not long after I posted my previous reply here (probably encouraged by this thread), I asked a friend of mine to bring over some of her other friends so I could meet them, and of course to let them know I was a nudist first. So she did. When they arrived, one of her friends kind of laughed and introduced herself. Then she said, "Kerri told me you were a nudist, but I didn't expect you to be so 'open' about it. I said, "Oh, I figured if she told you I was a nudist, and you came anyway, you'd be fine with me being naked." She replied, "I'm fine with you being naked, I just didn't expect to see so much, so soon." I was sitting pretty comfortably, but when she said that, I closed my legs and apologized. Then she said, "It didn't bother me, I was just surprised is all." I got them all some drinks, and eventually started to relax again. |

I am generally pretty open. I do of course understand that for some people in certain jobs or whatever there are reasons to keep things somewhat private. But I also think it helps the cause of nudism to be able to casually tell people when asked that yeah I'm going to a nudist resort this weekend, or whatever. It starts discussions about it, promotes understanding, and does sometimes lead to other trying it out. Almost everyone who really knows me knows that I'm a nudist. My boss doesn't that I know of, but everyone that I'm a bit friendly with at work, and one or two others, do know. And if nudity/nudism came up in random conversation with a stranger, I'd be open about it, promoting the positive view on nudity and if its relevant I'd go ahead and say that I'm a nudist. If friends are coming over to my place I will be nude unless my roommate asks me to put something on for that time which isn't very often. My primary email has the word nude in it, which starts many more conversations on it. so yeah, I aint hiding anything ;) |

Some of my family and a lot of my friends are aware that I am a nudist. A number of my coworkers are nudist too. So it is not unusual to see a couple of medics and EMTs on Sandy Hook and running into each other. And if my friends were unaware, a look through my Facebook page would reveal a few nudist groups. |

Last night I was chating with a childhood friend of my sister. I told her about hoping to move somewhere that I could enjoy swimming nude. Her reply "That sounds like a cool idea" She admitted how much she dislikes swim suits. She just knowes she has to overcome the shyness factor. |

My wife and I have talked to so many people here in our apartment complex that several haev said that they "might" have to come with us sometime. Of those, there is one who will probably do it. Currently, she is battling facial skin cancer and can't spend much time in the sun. She says when it is better (she has had it surgically removed) she will go with us. John |
Earthygal65 Posted: Jun 26, 2010 |
I am pretty open about it. My son, my brothers & sister know. I never felt the need to share it with my father. I will share it with anyone who questions me about it. I have scared off a few dates by telling them. I guess they just don't understand & would not be right for me anyway. |
nudecojohn Posted: Jun 26, 2010 |
BTW: The friend who is battling skin cancer says she is planning to come to Laguna del Sol with us in September. John |

I currently in the process of making a move. Was talking to someone from my church. She asked me about where I was looking. I told her that I had 1 place as a possibliity. Then I said I would look into another option. She pressed me for details. I started by saying thatI did not regard my body as sinful and I actually am looking into a place that has nude facilities. Her reaction was positive. She is a retired nurse so she should be more open to what I said. |

Right now, not very. My wife and sons know but I have not told anyone else. My extended family is very conservative and I am afraid they would not be very receptive or understand. That said, I am going to be truthful if pressed although I may try some delaying tactics at first. |
captinwillie Posted: Jul 7, 2010 |
I have always been open about being a nudist. My now deceased wife and I were always nude at our home and around her collage student daughter. I have a sign that I bought on one of my many trips to Australia that is used at the nude beaches that show the silhouette of a nude man and women and it is posted on my driveway so no one should have any doubts. |

Anybody who's known me for a while knows that I'm a nudist. It's such a part of who I am that it's bound to come up in conversation. |

I am so open about being a nudist that when I was on facebook and in the game farmville I received a spa and announced that it was a clothing optional spa. One of the woman friends said in reply "Wayne I would expect that if you had a spa it would be c o. |
